The Westin Hotel, Lima
Arriving at the Westin Lima you feel a sudden rush of relief and respite from the smoggy busy city outside. This luxurious hotel is exactly what you need. Pronto. I'm ashamed to say that we barely left the hotel walls in our two days in Lima, unable to tear ourselves away from the luxuries within. I also blame the jetlag... But what a place to be jetlagged! Sky high ceilings, incredible rooms, fresh flowers, 5-star food and the most professional staff you could wish for. Our stupidly incredible corner suite looked over the very same traffic jam we were stuck in on arrival along with the rest of the sprawling urban city scape. A treat to watch the sun go down and the fairy lights of the city emerge while lounging around in soft robes and order room service. Sure this is a convention and conference centre but it's much more than that and offers the luxury traveller a perfect choice for a trip to Lima. Whilst visiting a smoggy, dusty city (that by the way, has amazing restaurants, hidden gems of culture and a super interesting vibe!) it's such a treat to have soft clean sheets and a luxurious room to come back to after a day of exploring. Trust me - you'll need it. The executive Starwood Preferred Guests lounge, with complimentary breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks with absolutely breathtaking city views is just the cherry on top. To fight the jet lag we visited the gym for a quick workout which was by far the best hotel gym I have ever laid eyes on. Starting with the ice cold refreshing flavoured water on arrival, the large selection of machines to work out on, fresh white towels, pilates balls... I could go on... It is absolutely pristine. The best part about it is that if you want to travel light and leave your sneakers at home - the Westin has fitness packs including rental gym gear and runners for $5US. So no excuses... Except that, you might prefer to just be at the breakfast buffet instead :) The restaurant is a 5-star mecca for foodies. The menu is fresh, seasonal and deliciously interesting. I recommend the steak - we both agree it was the best steak we've had in years. It's something I will think of often I can tell - there's nothing like a meal cooked to absolute perfection. Enjoy your adventure out in the city dear lover, it's great to know you have the comfort and luxury of the Westin to call home. On another note, for first-time travellers, this is a great way to ease yourself into South America if Peru happens to be your first port of call.
