The Beach Tulum Hotel is a small, upscale, eco-hotel sitting pretty in the middle of Tulum village, Mexico.
Positioned perfectly on a small patch of the 70-miles of sandy paradise that is the Riviera Maya, this is a perfect home-base for town explorations, bike-riding adventures and of course many relaxing beachfront hammock hangs watching those crystal waves roll in. Does life get any better than this? You can ponder such questions from your woven beach bed and think about all of the projects you will embark on, after lunch. This is magical. The rooms, which feel like private bungalows, are beachfront and are actually 'beachfront' being literally perched on the sand directly in front of the ocean. A few steps and you’re salty. No road, no fence... just white, soft, paradisiacal sand. The attitude at The Beach Tulum has to be less is more. No phones, no little extras, just a stunning snapshot of natural beauty and eco-chic rooms with big beds, a small spot to hang your clothes and bathrooms with grand yet simple bathtubs. One of my favourite aspects of Tulum is the way in which the town embraces and promotes a healthy way of life. Cold-pressed juices, organic almost everything and a stunning array of options for vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians or even those on a juice cleanse. Don't forget the Mexican cuisine among all of your options. This is the destination to ensure maximum glowy skin, heightened energy and limber muscles post-yoga class. A mixture of the healthy food, relaxation and sunshine will have you feeling sparkly in days. Couple this with the multitude of yoga and beach activities and you couldn’t ask for more in a 'relaxation destination'. My favourite day at The Beach Tulum went like this; Sunrise - Waking up to gaze out at the ocean at the end of my bed. Soon after - Yoga in the hotel to get the energy flowing. Breakfast - A small organic selection picked from an array of options at either of the hotel restaurants - depending on which vibe you feel like. Biking - Exploring the town on a pair of the hotel bikes riding through the winding sandy streets in search for the best cold-pressed juice on earth. A sucker for anything green – this was heaven for me. Taco's - We stopped off at a tiny local taco stand to devour some simple, yet surprisingly tasty tacos with mountains of mandatory hot sauce. Hammock-hour - Heading back to the hotel we spent the afternoon lounging on the beachfront hammocks having frequent dips in the crystal-clear ocean and drinking fresh coconuts brought to us by the adorable beach staff. As the sun went down the sky turned an array of pastel colours and the ocean sparkled in the warm evening light. The perfect time for the last swim of the day. Etched into the culinary section of my memory are the deconstructed tacos served at the beachside restaurant at The Beach Tulum. Sandy floors and candlelight, coupled with the most exquisite deconstructed taco you have ever tasted. I won’t give anything else away but just try it! It’s magic – have one for me too... I can’t stop thinking about them. After dousing ourselves in aeroguard we ventured out for some Mexican cocktails in Tulum town and then headed back for an early night so that we could wake to see the sunrise over the ocean from our room. Or I should say, from our bed. The view was epic even through half opened eyes. One of the most inventive eco-friendly initiatives is the use of WhatsApp rather than unnecessary hotel phones. Simply message the reception and they will get back to you over Wi-Fi. Brilliant idea to keep the rooms super simple and minimalist. This is a time to switch off... metaphorically and physically. However, if you're like me and you need to get your body moving after that 50th serving of guacamole, I suggest bringing it back to basics - a simple beach run and a mighty refreshing swim. Done. Then onto more taco-tasting. The Beach Tulum has utilised the commanding beauty of the surrounding area as a component of the hotel. How could they not? Those turquoise waves crashing at your doorstep, the soft sand beckoning to you from a few metres away. The lazy palms blowing in the tropical breeze. Believing that the environment speaks for itself, The Beach Tulum believe other luxuries are unnecessary. This is a place to get back to your roots. Sandy floors, simple showers and lots of beach time. Luxury fuelled by nature in the middle of a sandy, sleeping town. Keep adventuring, I'll be here snoozing in this adults-only retreat for as long as possible... The Beach Tulum Hotel can be found here |
